CONTEST NOW CLOSED.
Now that I have your attention, allow me to tell you a little bit about myself and why I blog. Then I promise I’ll get to the contest.
I’m Charles Bohannan and I live and raise my family in Hawaii. You may think it’s round-the-clock surfing and mai tais here, but it’s not (too bad, I know).
Paradise comes with a price. In other words, it’s very hard to thrive in Hawaii–pretty much anywhere these days–on an average income in an average job as an average employee. I tried to be average for years and never really got that far.
My challenge and quest to be someone remarkable led me to start this blog in October 2008. My intention here at Wordful is to share with you my best ideas on writing, blogging, creativity and life. And how to make money online–haha just kidding ![]()
Really, though–I’ve got a lot of helpful and meaningful content to share that I know you’ll truly appreciate. Stick around and I promise I won’t let you down.
So click here to subscribe to my RSS feed, grab yourself a cold mai tai and let’s get to know each other! (And if you’re in Hawaii, call me up and we’ll go surf!)
Now, the contest.
Today I was awarded the Grand Prize for a blog post entry I wrote about why I want to attend the Social Media Success Summit 2009. The contest was held by respected blogger Chris Garrett (thanks Chris!), and one of the prizes was two tickets to the Summit (which I hear is nearly sold out).
I’m using one ticket for myself and giving away the other one right here.
How to Win
Simply answer these 3 questions to the best of your abilities:
- What’s your single greatest challenge with blogging?
- How will the Social Media Success Summit help you overcome this challenge?
- How do you envision your success online?
To win, write a blog post on your blog that answers these questions. You will need to leave a comment here with a link back to your blog post or a trackback on this blog post so I can read your entry.
The deadline is Monday, May 25th at 6:00pm PST. I will announce the winner on May 26 at 12pm (noon) PST. The Summit starts at 5pm PST that same day (May 26).
A few important guidelines:
- Keep it short, simple and specific, and no more than 500 words.
- Put your heart into it, please.
- Have fun and be yourself.
Good luck and happy blogging!

My biggest problem when blogging – ironically enough – is social media. How do I utilize it? How do I make sure I have a large enough fan base to hear what I have to say? What can I do to gain leverage? There is no way, shape or form my blog will gain without the use of social media. Right now, Twitter is the only social media site I participate actively in. How do I get Facebook, StumbleUpon, and possibly even LinkedIn involved with my blog? Do you see a common theme?
1. There is a lot information that I don’t know.
2. Social Media Success Summit can easily help me.
How will SMSS be able to help me?
Not only will some of the world’s most talented marketers will be on hand, but a group of people who are just like me. It’s not only the fact that experts like Gary Vaynerchuk, Darren Rowse, Chris Garrett and Brian Clark will be there. It’s the fact that the person who is yet to unveil that beautiful bouquet of flowers will be there as well. I am that person.
The fact that I am only thirteen probably goes into your decision as well. I am going to tell you I am 100% committed to Command Your Time and my online profile. I’ve started to take on the responsibility of posting during my vacation in the summer. I treat my blog as I would with any task or job at hand: with complete focus.
How do I envision my success as a blogger?
Since I run a blog on success, I think I’m pretty qualified to give you a half-decent answer here. My online success includes the following principles: a community who gives me feedback and supports me at every turn, conquering the oddities of social media, SEO, and copywriting, and finally being able to share my story as someone who made it big at a young age.
I’m going to be completely honest: I expect to make my blog into a world class home, but I don’t expect to do it alone. SMSS09 is a perfect stepping stone for me to a) help connect with people who love marketing and b) understand the marketing world that much more.
As I look through the Social Media Success Summit schedule, I see my interest gravitating to each and every one of the sessions. “How to create a mega following,” “how to utilize Facebook,” “how to engage my Twitter audience.” Am I dreaming or what? These are the same questions I ask every day.
The power is in your hands! Make my dream come true!

Thanks Dan for your entry. Do you mind please posting this on your blog as your own post and then either linking it in the comments here or sending a trackback from your post?
Thanks. I want to make sure you follow the rules so your entry counts. It’s probably best you don’t leave your entry here as a comment.

Charles just won two tickets to The Social Media Success Summit and he has so generously offered to help another blogger attend. Brilliant marketing move for Charles for driving traffic to his blog, getting folks to subscribe, follow him on twitter, all while offering real value. Seems like he is well on his way to be a Social Media Success. To win his extra ticket Charles has asked a few simple things..write a post..…keep it short, be specific, put your heart into it, and no more than 500 words read mine here…http://2broadscasting.com
