No Google search could ever answer this question, that’s for sure.
The only way to find out is to pry yourself away from the internet and go out and meet some successful internet marketers. Study their characters, learn what makes them tick and best of all—give them a chance to know you, too.
This is precisely what I did last month at Affiliate Dot Com Live in Las Vegas. After going over my notes, I discovered these three distinct winning characteristics of successful internet marketers:
They are down to Earth, genuine people
I really mean this. All the hype and commotion and product launch pandemonium really doesn’t accurately portray the reality of their personalities.
Successful IMers are friendly and approachable people who love to solve complex challenges with simple solutions. Most of them come from fairly ordinary lives and ordinary jobs. Nothing they earned was handed to them.
They simply saw an better opportunity on the web and took action on it. Now they are happy people who love what they’re doing.
They are super generous
There wasn’t a successful IMer I met that I’d ever consider selfish. Their motto is “If you want to get more, trying giving more.”
The spirit of generosity was everywhere at the conference. Each presenter that got on stage shared as much of themselves as possible.
This not only included their “ninja” internet marketing techniques, but more importantly—their stories. They let us in on where they came from and how they had to change their mindset to get to where they are.
They are pioneers
Right now, internet marketing is like the Wild West. There are millions of ways to make heaps of money, and not a whole lot of regulation.
People are migrating from unspectacular careers in hopes of striking it rich. A few are making dazzling amounts of money (Saj P: $100k in a day? Really?!), but most fail.
The successful internet marketers aren’t the ones dwelling on the dream of success. They are the ones out there taking chances, taking action and seeing what works. They are creating their legacy.

It’s hard to believe I spent two years alone in my head—wondering if these guys were for real—before I went to my first IM event. I can now confirm firsthand that they are, and I want to be one of them!
