I hear about twitter on Breakfast Television, on comercials, the news and now its practically all over the place! I am a frequent facebook user, and I love facebook. I'm reading about Twitter through google Q&A's and by looking at info on the Twitter website. I don't currently have an account with twitter, so what is all the psych? or is that just it? What is different from Twitter that facebook doesn't have?
Or what alone is so great about it? Is it just cause everyone's doing it?

I'm not sure if there is such a thing as an "average user" on Twitter. If you're using it strictly for personal reasons, and only want to network with people you know, then yes -- not much is going to happen. Especially if you're not a proactive conversationalist.

As far as dialog -- I'm no celebrity by any means but I've had a few good conversations with strangers. From a geographical perspective, I notice the best camaraderie is between the people who live in my state (Hawaii).

I'm about to write a post on some really good Twitter #chats I see emerging. They are themed around a topic, scheduled around a designated time and tracked using the #hashtag function. If you find something you like these conversations can be awesome. If not, then you can start one yourself by putting yourself out there and outreaching to fellow tweeps.

Hey thanks for the comment, too. I appreciate the dialog!

"Twitter is also an easy place to find answers almost instantly. Say you need to find a great restaurant in Honolulu as you’re passing through for the day. All you do is tweet the question and wait a few moments — then you’ve got your restaurant picks."

That is total BS. For the average user with about 10 friends following, you will never get an answer, ever. The only way to get a lot of interaction on Twitter is to have lots of followers, and the typical user will never accomplish this. The only people who have more than a couple dozen followers are bloggers, technorati, celebs, etc. Well that's great for them but I'm no celebrity, not even a minor blogging celeb.

Twitter also sucks at dialogue. You will sometimes see people respond to other tweets, but there is no good way to jump in on the "conversation" - you cannot see the entire thread. The person who is at the center of a bunch of tweets (usually a celeb) is the only one who can see "the whole picture".

Wow! Thanks for this comprehensive feature on Twitter. I join a couple months ago and I agree that it's so much fun (it's addicting :).

See you at twittwerland! :)

I am assuming you are hooking up with the Hawaii Tweeples - there's a great group out there and they are all very friendly :)
