Hi Russ, thanks for your thoughtful words. I'm back from Korea now, back to "normal" life and still haven't quite taken it all in yet.

I ended up meeting two cousins (one had a two year-old daughter) on one day and an uncle on another. Both encounters were enlightening and actually transformed a lot of the abstract ideas I had about them into something much more realistic.

It's worth a visit but as far as living there -- like Thailand, Hawaii is also hard to beat! Thanks again for your meaningful comment.

Hey Charles, stumbled on your blog via your comment on Yaro's blog.
I admire your courage and integrity in seeking out your family roots. So far it's an interesting read and I hope you'll proceed with more.
My brother (an Aussie) actually lives in Seoul,.. well,- for the most part. He's a pilot with a Korean airline. He's told me similar stories of Seoul being a bit unusual and difficult to settle into but said after a while it kind of pieces together event though the people tend to be a bit stiff and insular. He's been there almost 3 years now and is about to marry a Korean lady who seems very nice but I haven't met her,... I hope it works out for him coz he's such a great guy.. I think I'd like to visit Korea someday and maybe even live there for a while, but ultimately living in Thailand is pretty hard to beat :-)
Cheers,.. enjoy the rest of your journey Charles!
Russ
PS.. your Thesis mod looks great!
